GENERAL ALBUM INFORMATION
Telmak Teleproducts was a well-known Australian TV-marketer during the 1980s. It was a breakaway from K-tel, commencing in January 1981 under the head of former K-tel Products General Manager David Hammer. With a strong shareholding by major Australian television stations, it had almost unlimited access to TV space, making it a strong competitor in the "loud and cheesy" advertising category.

While initially licensing recordings of 'known' artists such as Dolly Parton, The Animals and even The Rolling Stones, Telmak really found its niche in 1984 when it pioneered 'sound-alike' packages – double albums (for the price of a single album or even less!) comprising re-recordings of then contemporary hits. It drew ire from the major record companies in its ability to release sound-alikes before even the majors had a chance to release the original recordings! Indeed, Australians may remember the legal challenge brought against it by CBS Australia in 1987 that resulted in Telmak being instructed to make the source of its recordings more prominent on its packaging.

Released in August 1982, Historic Sessions was the second significant Australian issue of the Star-Club recordings. Licensed by Telmak Teleproducts from the New York-based Double H Licensing Corp, the track listing closely followed that of the (expanded) 1981 UK Audiofidelity Enterprises release but with two interviews added: one with John Lennon and one with Ringo Starr. This addition, along with extra photos that graced the gatefold inner sleeve, were courtesy Australian rock guru Glenn A Baker, who prepared the album for local release - see image below.

The gatefold sleeve contained the same Chris White liner notes as Live! At The Star-Club In Hamburg, although now there was a postscript 'correcting' the date the recording was made and the circumstances surrounding Ringo's 'coincidental' appearance - see image below.

The album was mastered at Studios 301 by Otto Ruiter and pressed by Powderworks.

Historic Sessions was a mainstay of service stations and department stores everywhere, proving especially popular on the car-convenient cassette format.
