Overview
Released in Australia on 27 July 1981 as EMI VMP 1092/3, Made in the U.K. Hits of the 60's brought together forty recordings across two LPs. Its selection ranged from beat groups and rock ’n’ roll to ballads, instrumentals and novelty songs, presenting a broad retrospective of the decade’s British popular music.

The Beatles are represented by ‘Love Me Do’, which opens side four. The compilation uses the recording featuring Andy White on drums and Ringo Starr on tambourine, electronically reprocessed for stereo. Other connections to the group include Peter and Gordon’s ‘A World Without Love’, written by Lennon–McCartney, and Scaffold’s ‘Lily the Pink’, featuring Paul McCartney’s brother Mike.

The gatefold sleeve reinforced the British theme with an MG sports car on the outside and illustrations inside. Click the sleeve image above to view the inner gatefold. Together with the varied track selection, the packaging presented the album as a nostalgic celebration of the sixties.
